The Heart that Glowed by Anina-Bird
The Heart that Glowed

I once knew a woman with a love so pure and powerful that it glowed like a star through her chest.

Hers was a gentle power that was not understood by this world. Everywhere this woman went, and by all those she met on her way, she was treated cruelly and mocked, because they were afraid of what they could not comprehend. Still others feigned to love her, but truly only sought to drain her light for their own gain.

When I found her, she was naked and shivering from the cold of the world. Around her hands and feet were tied thin ropes that could have broken easily, yet which kept her bound and crippled. The glow in her chest had almost faded.

I took her home and clothed her, and she wept silently while I sang her a song about love.

Early every morning, as the sun broke over the trees, I took her to a quiet place where we collected dew-drops from blades of grass and watched the birds at play. Slowly, she began to trust me; she began to trust those hours of quiet light.

Where the ropes had once rubbed against her skin, the scars have almost healed.

Now, she shares her light with all she meets.
